“Lantern Parade I”
Original oil and mixed media on canvas 80cm x 80cm S$2800.00
This painting was based on an annual event during the Mid Autumn Festival in Chinatown, Singapore. I was inspired by the incredible colours of the festive decorations and also by the sheer scale of the event. There is a walk which starts at Chinatown Point and ends at Kreta Ayer Square. The light-up involves three chapters, each with their own unique theme. Passing of Wishes and Tales pays homage to the legend of the moon goddess Chang’e; Gathering and Preparing the Celebration reflects Singapore’s multicultural tapestry; and Celebrating Love and Having Fun Together. I have depicted elements in an abstract fashion withing the painting to represent my journey and the meaning and sentiments which are associated with the event.
