“Chingay Parade Dancer I”
Original oil and mixed media on canvas 91cm x 61cm S$2200.00
The Chingay Parade started in 1973 as a street parade to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Since then, it has evolved into an annual iconic event that showcases Singapore’s rich and unique multi-ethnic and cosmopolitan cultures. While attending such an event I was inspired to start a series of projects based on the incredible dancing troops from different countries. Within this painting I have taken my recordings of elements on the day and focused my attention on colour and movement. I was fascinated by the energy of the dancers and one in particular stood out. I have represented her in mid dance with the swirl of colour and the decorative floats that surround her. There are other decorative items which I have included that give a sense of energy and an uplifting mood.
